Monday Motivation Personal Development Series
As a resident artist in video and photography in the Apple Retail stores, I wanted to better connect with the social media content creator community that I was engaging with everyday, so I created the Monday Motivation video series to see what their experience is like creating content every week.
I set out to publish a 15-30 second inspiration message every week for one year on YouTube and Instagram. I set up a backdrop with simple lighting and my GH4 in my garage and captured a few messages at a time to publish once a week.
I felt the intimidation of getting started, and I want with it. As I went along, my lighting and picture got better, and I figured out my systems for consistency. I successfully published one video a week for the year, and learned a lot of lessons to better relate to the content creator community. I learned the value of capturing enough content in one session to split up into multiple posts. I learned how much the pressure to keep up is relieved by being ready to publish weeks ahead of schedule. I especially learned how much creativity relies on relieving that pressure to flourish.
More than anything, I encouraged myself and my friends who tuned in every week to be introspective and gracious in their personal development journeys. And I think connection is what content creators are really all about.
